INTRODUCTION
WELCOME TO STEEL RIFT - BURNING HORIZONS
No matter how far into the future, technological advances bring warfare, but sometimes it’s still
one man with a rifle that can make the difference. HE-V technology introduced a new scale
of war to the battlefield, but older, more tried-and-true methods of fighting still exist in their
shadow.
Steel Rift: Burning Horizons introduces all-new rules to represent these additional Units you
can find alongside your HE-Vs on the battlefields of the future. These new Unit types will add
flexibility to the missions and in turn offer more ways to control the battle, achieve objectives,
and structure your crews.
In addition to introducing new rules for additional Unit types, Burning Horizon will introduce
rules for integrating narrative to your games of Steel Rift through the addition of Campaigns.
Managing a hangar of HE-Vs and their pilots over the course of a Campaign offers a rewarding
and interesting collective experience for any group of glory-hungry Commanders who want
even more out of their games. In a Campaign you will forge elite fighting teams of HE-Vs, see
heroes rise amongst your ranks, and complete agendas that add unique flair to each stage of
the Campaign Conflict you’re playing through. A Campaign Manager will tailor the amount and
scope of the Missions being played to your group, collect and track the results and then award
the achievements to Commanders at its conclusion.

NEW HE- V RULES:
VARIANT MOTIVE TYPES
A Commander may equip any HE-V with one of the following variant Motive Types without
paying any additional cost in tonnage. Selecting a Variant Motive Type will, however, reduce
an HE-Vs maximum number of upgrade slots by one.
TRACKED
Some HE-Vs have been retrofitted, or specially designed to use tank-style tracks instead of
legs. While not the most agile in terms of maneuverability, tracks allow HE-Vs to use their
additional traction to quickly plow straight through rubble, ruins and dense foliage.
Tracked HE-Vs may perform the following Order:
PLOW THROUGH (ORDER)
Pivot this HE-V up to 90° and then move up to its current move speed in a straight line while ignoring
Rough terrain. This HE-Vs Facing does not change at the end of this Order.
MULTI- LIMBED
The main benefit to a multi-limbed HE-V is the ability to lower its profile to reduce its
target size to the enemy. The downside is that the less humanoid build makes the HE-V
less intuitive for pilots to operate in melee combat. Multi-Limbed HE-Vs count as one
Class smaller when performing a Smash order. Equipping a Multi-Limbed HE-V with a
melee weapon functions as normal but only returns the HE-V to its original weight class
when performing Smash orders.
Multi-Limbed HE-Vs may perform the following Order:
HUNKER DOWN (ORDER)
Place a ‘Hunkered Down’ Token next to the HE-V. While this HE-V is ‘Hunkered Down’ any attacks on this
Unit originating from attackers within Line of Sight must count the Hunkered Unit as being obscured by
Covering Terrain. If the Hunkered Unit was already obscured by Covering Terrain, it must be treated as
being obscured by Blocking Terrain. There is no additional benefit to a Unit already obscured by Blocking
Terrain. The ‘Hunkered Down’ Token is removed if this Unit performs any Order other than an Engage
Order, or is the target of a Smash Order.
