Due to the current developmental status of the V4 core, the AmiKit support & functionality on V4 is limited. Check for the latest core updates. SOFTWARE -------- For AmiKit to work you need AmigaOS 3.x & ROM 3.1 and Picasso96.lha version 2.0 from Aminet or 2.4+ from Individual Computers FOR MORE DETAILS PLEASE READ ---------------------------- bit.ly/AmiKit-VampireGuide ======================================================================================= C F E D I T I O N - Q U I C K I N S T A L L G U I D E ======================================================================================= Plug your AmiKit CompactFlashョ card to an Amiga or PC/Mac and copy your Amiga OS, Kickstart ROM, Picasso96 & Roadshow to AMIKITXE:InstallFiles drawer. Then boot your AmiKit card with your Vampire & follow the instructions. You can get all required files from www.amikit.amiga.sk/getamigaos ======================================================================================= Or do you prefer a STEP BY STEP GUIDE instead? ============================================== 1: LET'S PLUG THE COMPACTFLASHョ CARD TO AMIGA OR PC/MAC FIRST Okay, this is going to be super easy! Since the card is compatible with Amiga and PC/Mac too. It includes both FAT and PFS partitions for easy data transfer between Amiga and PC/Mac. Just plug the card into your computer and open the InstallFiles drawer located on the AMIKITXE FAT32 partition. We're going to import copyrighted system files there in the next chapter. 2: NOW PROCEED TO THE "IMPORT OF COPYRIGHTED FILES" CHAPTER ======================================================================================= L Z X E D I T I O N - Q U I C K I N S T A L L G U I D E ======================================================================================= Place the content of the LZX archive in an EMPTY & BOOTABLE 2GB+ large PFS or SFS partition named AmiKit. Copy your Amiga OS, Kickstart ROM, Picasso96 & Roadshow to AmiKit:Expansion/InstallFiles drawer. Then cold boot the AmiKit partition. You can get all required files from www.amikit.amiga.sk/getamigaos ======================================================================================= Or do you prefer a STEP BY STEP GUIDE instead? ============================================== 1: BOOT YOUR AMIGA OS Workbench or just the Install 3.x floppy disk. 2: PREPARE AN EMPTY & BOOTABLE PFS PARTITION AND NAME IT AmiKit AmiKit requires a 2GB large (or larger) partition named AmiKit (device AK0). If you don't have one at hand, prepare it with the HDToolbox program. Make sure the partition filesystem is ProfessionalFilesystem (PFS) with long filenames enabled or SmartFilesystem (SFS). Please do NOT use the default (and slow) FastFilesystem (FFS). Download the latest PFS filesystem from http://aminet.net/disk/misc/pfs3aio.lha and pfsformat command from http://aminet.net/disk/misc/PFS3_53.lha For your convenience, here's the quick guide on how to prepare a PFS partition: - Run HDToolBox (from "Tools" drawer or from HDTools drawer of the install floppy disk) - Click "Partition Drive" button, select your partition and click "Advanced Options" - Select "Add/Update" button and then "Add New File System" button - Select or write "pfs3aio" file (located in PFS3AIO archive, see above) - Enter or change the following "DosType Identifier" to: 0x50465303 and press ENTER - Then go back to partitions screen and select "Change" button - Change the "File System" to PFS\03 - Change "MaxTransfer" to: 0x0001FE00 and press ENTER - Change "Mask" to: 0x7FFFFFFE and press ENTER - Change "File system block size" to 1024 - Then go back to partitions screen and increase "Buffers" to 500 and press ENTER - Change "Partition Name" to AK0 (and press ENTER) and enable "Bootable" option - SAVE your settings on exit and reboot - A new unformatted partition should appear on your desktop now - Double-click PFSFormat command (located in Tools drawer of the original PFS) and enter the following arguments to format your new partition: DEVICE=AK0: NAME=AmiKit FNSIZE=107 NOICONS QUICK 3: UNPACK AMIKIT LZX ARCHIVE TO YOUR NEW AmiKit: PARTITION Simply place the archive in AmiKit: partition and run Shell (press right-mouse button, select Workbench > Execute Command and type NewShell, or just press Left Amiga + E) and type: UnLZX -q1 x amikitxe-vampire.lzx AmiKit: If you don't have UnLZX yet, download it from http://file.amiga.sk/amikit/download/LZX121r1_Y2KP.lha NOTE: If you use the LZX command instead, make sure to use -x option to unpack empty drawers too. Now you have around 15 minutes to make a good coffee or tea for yourself :) 4: NOW PROCEED TO THE "IMPORT OF COPYRIGHTED FILES" CHAPTER ======================================================================================= I M P O R T O F C O P Y RI G H T E D F I L E S ======================================================================================= Let's import the required system files to your CompactFlashョ card now. If you're installing the LZX Edition, open AmiKit:Expansion/InstallFiles drawer and use any Amiga file manager (eg. Directory Opus) to copy the files there as described below. If you're installing the CF Edition, open AMIKITXE:InstallFiles drawer and use your Amiga/PC/Mac to copy the files there as described below. ======================================================================================= 1: LET'S COPY YOUR PREFERRED AMIGA OS & KICKSTART ROM - If you have AmigaOS 3.2, place all ADFs files in the InstallFiles drawer. Place the Kickstart ROM version 47.xx in there too and name it kick.rom - If you have AmigaOS 3.1.4 ZIP, place the archive in the InstallFiles drawer. Also, place the 3.1.4.1 Update archive: www.hyperion-entertainment.com/index.php/news/1-latest-news/280-update-to-amigaos-314-released and Locale Extras archive: www.hyperion-entertainment.com/index.php/news/1-latest-news/283-amigaos-3141-release-notes-available in there too. Don't unpack them. Everything will be recognized, unpacked and installed automatically, including the Kickstart ROM file. - If you have Amiga Forever 8 or 7, copy the content of the whole CD/DVD or ISO to the InstallFiles drawer. Or, if your Amiga Forever is already installed on your PC, just launch it, select "Tools" > "Build Image" from the menu, change the "Output as:" option from "ISO Image" to "Directory" and export only the "Systems" content to InstallFiles drawer. Kickstart ROM file will be installed automatically. - If you have AmigaOS 3.5 or 3.9 or XL, copy the content of the whole CD or ISO to the InstallFiles drawer. Place the Kickstart ROM version 45.6x or 40.68 in there too and name it kick.rom - If you have the old AmigaOS 3.1 located in the AmigaOS4.1FE CD or ISO, copy the content of the whole CD or ISO to the InstallFiles drawer. Also, you will need to place all the following OS3.1 Update archives: www.amigaforever.com/classic/download in there too (don't unpack them) so the old grandpa gets some boost ;) Place the Kickstart ROM version 45.6x or 40.68 in there too and name it kick.rom - OPTIONAL: To play WHDLoad games, copy additional ROMs to InstallFiles drawer. You can skip this part in case of Amiga Forever - AmiKit will pick them up automatically. By the way, the ROMs required by WHDLoad are named, for instance, "kick40068.A4000", "kick40063.A600", "kick33180.A500" and "kick34005.A500" (in Amiga Forever also named as "amiga-os-130.rom"; in Amiga OS 4.1 FE also named as "Kickstart-34.4.rom"). Check the WHDLoad ROM page for details: www.whdload.de/docs/en/need.html 2: COPY Picasso96.lha ARCHIVE TO InstallFiles DRAWER. Don't unpack it. http://aminet.net/package/driver/video/Picasso96 You can skip this part in case of AmigaOS 3.9 or XL as they both include the Picasso96 and AmiKit is able to pick it up automatically. OPTIONAL: If you have Picasso96.lha version 2.4 (or newer) from Individual Computers, feel free to place this version in there instead. AmiKit will recognize it and install it automatically. TIP: Later, if you decide to upgrade to a newer version or to downgrade to an older version, simply place the Picasso96.lha archive (don't unpack it) in InstallFiles drawer and AmiKit will install it automatically for you on reboot. OPTIONAL: If you already have your working Vampire screen mode setup, and you want to start AmiKit in this preferred resolutio...
