f any of you have read
AMW’s
sister publication
Hornby
M g zine,
then you’ll know
there are quite a few celebrity
railway modellers… and that got
me thinking, where are all those
A-list modellers?
I already knew of actor Henry
Cavill’s interest in wargaming
figures, plus comedians Al
Murray and Chris Barrie, who
both indulge in building armour,
but I was curious to find the scale
modelling equivalents of Pete
Waterman and Rod Stewart. A
recent office discussion pointed
to an online article on renowned
film director Guillermo del Toro (I
knew there was a reason I liked
his films!) on how he regularly
got together with several other
famous directors for kit-building
sessions. All this made me
wonder – as it’s rumoured that
Ronald Reagan built model ships
in his spare time – does Robert
Downey Jr take time to build an
Iron Man figure perhaps? I’d be
interested in knowing whether
there are other celebrities who
build – if one of you reads this,
send in a photo of your model!
Back to this issue, and
we’ve started a new series of
standalone reference articles
with a modelling focus; we begin
with Baltic-deployed A-10C
Warthogs (ideal with Academy’s
upcoming kit in mind), operating
in support of NATO attempts to
reassure those countries in the
face of Russia’s ongoing more
assertive posture.
Airfix’s re-worked 1/72 Mosquito
makes the cover this month, with
the new release replicating the
reconnaissance PR.XVI variant…
and speaking of new products,
there’s also an in-depth report
on this year’s Nuremburg Toy
Fair, which returns after a
three-year break. New toolings
abound in this issue, from AFV
Club’s 1/48 U-2A and a same-
scale Z-526AFS from Eduard to
two from Revell: its splendid 1/72
F-15E Strike Eagle and, arguably
everyone’s favourite
