                         SQUAREX DIRECTIONS
                       _______________________

                              OBJECTIVE

The objective of Squarex is to capture all the gray squares on
the game board by maneuvering your yellow cube around each one.

                              GAME PLAY

When the game begins, your yellow cube will be blinking in the
upper left hand corner of the board. At the bottom right side
of the board, there are orange cubes trying to catch you as you
     move around the puzzle.

Use your <Arrow Keys> to move your yellow cube around the board.
You DO NOT have to keep your hand pressing down on the arrow keys.
Your yellow cube will continue in the direction you choose until
it hits the side of the board or until you change its direction by
pressing another arrow key. Once your yellow cube has passed an
intersection, it can not change its direction until it reaches
the next intersection. If your yellow cube cannot move in the
direction you have selected because there is not path, then it
will stop until you choose a valid direction.

When you can maneuver your cube completely around one of the gray
squares, it will then change to green. To complete a level, you
must keep moving around the board until you have turned all the
     gray squares to green.

On some levels there are blue squares. These are blank squares
and DO NOT count towards your score.

When your yellow cube moves, it will leave a red trail behind it.
This will allow you to know where you have already been.

                                 OBJECTS

At the start of each level there will be one 100 Point Square.
If you can capture this square first, then you will have 100
points added to your score. If you capture any other square before
this one, it will disappear from the game board and you will not
get the extra 100 bonus points.

                                PINK CUBES

On various levels there are pink cubes which are located at
different places along the passageways. The orange cubes that
are chasing you cannot pass through these, but you can. When you
do reach a pink cube, the orange cubes will turn light blue. As
long as the orange cubes are light blue, you can capture them and
get extra points. You have about 15 seconds before they will
change back to orange and start chasing you again.

                               ORANGE CUBES

The orange cubes will always try to catch you as you move around
the board. On some levels there is only one orange cube when
you begin, on others there are more. Every 30 seconds, another
orange cube will emerge from the lower right hand side of the board.
At the beginning levels, the orange cubes move at 1/2 the speed of
your yellow cube. On higher levels, they both move at the same speed.

                               BONUS ROUNDS

Every 2500 points you will get a special bonus round. There will
be no gray grids on the board, but when you make a square with your
yellow cube, the square will turn to green. If you can turn all
the entire black board to green squares, then a special Extra Cube
square will appear somewhere on the board. If you capture this
special square, then you will be given an extra yellow cube.

                               YELLOW CUBES

When you begin a new game, you will be given 4 cubes to start with.
If you lose all your cubes, then the game will be over. At the
lower left hand side of the board, it will tell you how many extra
cubes you have left, not counting the one you are playing with.

                             LEVELS / PRACTICE

You can practice any level by pressing the pra<C>tice key. This
will end the present game and allow you to go directly to one
of the levels. No scores are recorded while using this option.

There are a total of 7 levels of play in the Shareware version of
Squarex. The Registered version features 35 levels of play, plus
a Save & Load Game feature that you access through the <O>ption menu.

                                TIME LIMIT

There is a two minute time limit on all levels. If you do not
complete the level within this time, then you will lose one
     of your yellow cubes.

                                 SCORING

If you complete a level you will be given 25 points for each of
the green squares you captured. You will also be given Level Bonus
Points which are (25 points * Level). Time Bonus Points are added
to your score for each second under the two minutes it took you to
complete the level (one point for each second).

When the orange cubes are changed to light blue, you get 50 points
for the capturing the first cube. If you capture 2 light blue
cubes you get 100 points for the second one, 150 points for the
     third one...etc
