The drunken mouse is shaken but when calmed
with a stiff drink can give directions to where he
saw the ghost (see
Ghost Hunting).
On finding
the ghost you discover that
Basil (ghost
mouse)
is not maliciously scaring people but
worried and panicked herself, trying to find
someone to help recover her belongings.
She was buried with a favourite trinket which
has been uncovered and
taken by Zorphax
(magpie).
Basil has found Zorphax’s nest but
being a spirit cannot take the trinket back
herself, so she asks if you can
retrieve the
trinket and bury it again
so that she can return
to the spirit plane.
Will you negotiate with Zorphax to retrieve the
trinket? Or try to steal it? Or is that too much
effort when you can simply use magical weapons
to destroy Basil?

Tail
Whilst in a tavern late one night a mouse
runs in terrified:
a ghost is outside!
Most
patrons think the mouse has simply had too
much mead, but the landlord is concerned.
They have heard this story too many times
recently and are worried about losing trade,
so asks you quietly as adventurers of renown
— or modest rates —
to investigate,
with a
reward of
300 pips
if the ghost doesn’t
return again.
Basil (Ghost Mouse)
Basil is a deceased female pet mouse, with brown and
white piebald coat, large ears, and bright eyes. She will
not attack other mice unless in retaliation.
8hp, STR 5, DEX 9, WIL 8
Attacks: ghostly power, d6 chilling touch (damages
WIL)
Cannot be attacked unless via silver weapons or magic.
The Lost Trinket
What does Basil ask to be recovered? Roll a d4 for
inspiration.
Zorphax and Koshi (Magpies)
Zorphax
is a male magpie who loves everything and
anything colourful or shiny. He has collected a
substantial
horde
in his nest, but
is possessive and will
attack
if any of his treasure is brazenly stolen. However
he is always after something new so will swap items for
new treasure, and can be easily distracted.
He collects treasure for his partner
Koshi,
a female
magpie. On a roll of 1 on a d4 Koshi is
incubating a clutch
of eggs,
otherwise the two birds will come and go as long
as they think it is safe.
Magpies do eat mice, so be polite unless you want to be
dinner!

Ghost Hunting
Where are the players told to find the ghost? Roll a d4 to
pick a location, or adapt to fit in with your own world.
Burial Site
Where Basil was buried, and where the trinket needs to
be returned. Some of her bones are exposed so do try
to be respectful. Roll a d4 to pick a site, or adapt to fit in
with your world.

In the roots of a chestnut tree
By a river bank in the shade of a willow
Alongside a field of poppies
Under a shrub, in a human’s cottage garden
Zorphax and Koshi’s Nest
Magpie nests are large dense domes with one or two
entrances, constructed from sticks and twigs then lined
with vegetation and mud. Zorphax has embedded his
treasure into the walls of the nest for safe keeping.
Roll a d4 to pick a location, or make up your own.
When the ghost is found she is timid and quite scared, but
as she was a human’s pet all her life she is also excited to
see mice with clothes and tools.
She explains that she is called Basil, and desperately
needs help from an alive mouse to recover her trinket.
She loved it when alive and it was buried with her, but
somehow it’s been taken from her burial site. Since it was
taken a few days ago she has been searching for the
trinket, and has discovered that a magpie took it to his
nest.
