JOHN MARKUS has been associated with
McGraw-Hill since 1943, when he joined
the editorial staff of ELECTRONICS mag-
azine. As afeature editor, he was respon-
sible for many special state-of-the-art re-
ports in the field of electronics, including
one which received a Jesse H. Neal Edi-
torial Award for outstanding journalism.
He later served as Technical Director of
the Technical Information Research Staff
of the McGraw-Hill Book Company, where
he was involved in the application of elec-
tronic techniques to the mechanization of
information publishing systems. Currently
Manager of Information Research for Mc-
Graw-Hill, Inc., he serves as a consultant
to all McGraw-Hill divisions on nontradi-
tional publishing and information retrieval,
with emphasis on computer composition
of directories and indexes.
A Senior Member of the Institute of Elec-
trical and Electronics Engineers, Mr.
Markus is also a member of the Associa-
tion for Computing Machinery and the edi-
torial board of AMERICAN DOCUMENTA-
TION. He is the author, co-author, or
editor of more than a dozen McGraw-Hill
