What you can find here is a small bestiary of traditional Polish monsters you can use
for your
Monster of the Week
game. There is some basic information about each of
the monsters, a motivation and finally all the attributes you’ll need - including
Attack,
Armour, Special Powers
and
Weakness.
I have also included some useful
hooks
and
countdowns.
you can use to introduce all the beasts to your hunters.
I hope you will find them entertaining.

What is it all about?
Siblings from a nearby village went to the
forest to pick mushrooms. The harvest was
abundant, and the boy and girl wandered
into the heart of the forest, where they
found a cozy old hut right in the middle of
a clearing. Unfamiliar with this part of the
forest, or simply lost, if you put it bluntly,
they were overjoyed to see a kindly old lady
coming out of the hut. They couldn't have
known that it was Baba Yaga, who happily
invited them in looking to trap them, fatten
them up and make them a delicious meal.

Baba Yaga is a hag with iron teeth who lives in a hut on a chicken leg and often helps or hinders
travelers depending on her mood. The hut can shift its shape (for instance, it can trick children by
looking as if it’s made of candy and gingerbread) and Baba Yaga can make it move (it will skip on
its chicken leg wherever she tells it to go).
Baba Yaga looks like an old lady, but don’t let her trick you—she can move in a split second.
Blink, and you’ll feel her sharp teeth on your throat. She can look harmless like a nice granny,
but one can see her true face by looking at her through a knothole in a coffin board or by looking
deeply in her eyes. Instead of the reflection of light, you can see two goat heads in them.
To live, she needs to eat human flesh and her dish of choice is young children, roasted or baked.
The hook
Two children went missing in the woods,
the sheriff organizes a search. Looking
through the archives, it turns out that there
were more such disappearances, and the
children were never found. Local legends
tell of a strange old woman living deep in
the forest. Does she have anything to do
with the kidnappings?

only be killed by being roasted in her own
oven.

The search party goes into the
woods.
Sunset
Baba Yaga kills the search dogs.
Dusk
Sheriff finds the hut and gets killed by
Baba Yaga. She moves the hut deeper in the
forest.
Nightfall
Baba Yaga, using dark magic, causes
a storm in the forest. Trees break like
matchsticks, the search party retreats home.
Midnight
The children are now fattened and
ready to become a meal. Baba Yaga devours
the siblings.
