WHAT CAN BE DONE?
ANTI-ICING – PREVENTION
Anti-icing is a procedure to make sure that ice, snow and/or frost does
not collect and become attached to the aircraft surfaces.
Anti-icing fluid or a mixture of anti-icing fluid and water is applied to

ANTI-ICING / DE-ICING FLUID
The
types are known and accepted all over the world.
They
must conform to specified standards depending on
The three types commonly used are:
Type-I
Type-II
Type-IV
the task that they are designed for.
The
fluid must be accepted (among others) according to
its type for holdover times, aerodynamic performance and
material compatibility.
(Type III is not a preferred type)

HOW TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN TYPE I, II & IV
The
colouring of these fluids is also standardised:
TYPE
I:
ORANGE
Non-Thickened, Used for De-icing
Does not have good holdover characteristics
TYPE
II:
PALE STRAW
Contains thickening agent, which increases Viscosity and
provides for holdover
TYPE
IV:
GREEN
Contains thickening agent, which increases Viscosity.
Provides improved holdover periods over Type II.*
*Some Type II Fluids have been developed further and can
give longer holdover time than older Type IV Fluids
